Celebrating Three Years of Nonprofit Cyber: Strengthening Security, steadfast, and one step at a time
This past week, February 24, 2025 to be exact, marked the third anniversary of the Nonprofit Cyber Coalition, a milestone worth celebrating for the collective effort to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of nonprofits worldwide. Since its inception, Nonprofit Cyber has been a unifying force, bringing together organizations committed to one goal: ensuring nonprofits have the cybersecurity knowledge, resources, and support they need to operate safely in an increasingly digital world.
At Sightline Security, we are proud to have been part of this coalition from the beginning. As we reflect on three years of progress, we also look ahead to the work that remains. Cyber threats against nonprofits are not slowing down—if anything, they are growing in complexity. That’s why Sightline remains focused on providing what we do best: the first critical step in nonprofit cybersecurity.
The first step: visibility before action
Cybersecurity isn’t just about having the right tools or policies in place—it starts with understanding where you stand. Many nonprofits recognize the importance of cybersecurity but struggle with the "what now?" moment. They don’t know where to begin, how to prioritize risks, or what steps are feasible given their mission-driven focus.
That’s where Sightline comes in. We don’t pretend to be everything to everyone. We’re not an incident response team or a managed security provider—we are the first step. Our KickStart Program helps nonprofits gain visibility into their security posture and enable them with guidance and best practices.
Our role within the Nonprofit Cyber Coalition complements the broader mission by ensuring nonprofits don’t just react to threats—they proactively prepare for them. By aligning with frameworks like NIST CSF 2.0 and CIS Controls, we translate cybersecurity into practical, actionable guidance tailored specifically for nonprofits.
Three years of progress—and the work ahead
The past three years have demonstrated the power of collaboration. Thanks to Nonprofit Cyber, more organizations are aware of the risks they face, more resources are being made available, and more nonprofits are taking cybersecurity seriously. But there’s still much to do.
As we celebrate this milestone, Sightline remains committed to ensuring nonprofits have the foundation they need to build a resilient security posture. We’re honored to stand alongside other mission-driven organizations in this coalition, working together to make security accessible, achievable, and mission-driven.
Here’s to three years of progress—and to the next chapter of protecting the missions that matter most.
Happy Anniversary, Nonprofit Cyber!
