1Password sponsors Sightline Security: When a Security Company Chooses to Show Up for Nonprofits, We All Win
There's a question I've been sitting with for a long time, one that comes up in nearly every conversation I have at conferences, in boardrooms, and on quiet calls with nonprofit leaders who are doing everything they can with not nearly enough:
Where are the security companies that actually see us?
Not as a charity case. Not as a checkbox. But as a sector that is mission-critical to the fabric of our communities, facing real threats, with real people counting on it to get security right.
Today, I'm thrilled to share that 1Password has answered that question - loudly, and with action.
1Password has joined Sightline Security as an Innovator-level sponsor, and I want to take a moment to explain why that matters - not just for Sightline, but for every nonprofit leader trying to navigate cybersecurity on their own.
It Starts With Understanding the Problem
At Sightline, we've spent years listening. Listening to the executive director of a small advocacy nonprofit who knows they need better password hygiene but doesn't know where to start. Listening to the IT volunteer at a food bank who is doing their best but has no formal security training. Listening to the development director who worries that a data breach could destroy the donor trust it took a decade to build.
The pattern is consistent. Nonprofits aren't struggling with cybersecurity because they don't care. They're struggling because the tools, the language, and the solutions have been built for a different kind of organization, one with dedicated security teams, enterprise budgets, and the luxury of time.
1Password understands this. And more importantly, they're doing something about it.
What "Innovator" Really Means
When I look at the companies that show up for the nonprofit sector, I pay attention to how they show up. There's a difference between a vendor that offers a nonprofit discount and a partner that invests in the mission.
1Password's decision to sponsor Sightline at the Innovator level isn't about logo placement on a website. It's a statement. It says: we believe nonprofits deserve access to the kind of security infrastructure that protects their people, their data, and the communities they serve. It says the nonprofit sector is worth showing up for — not after the enterprise market is saturated, but now, intentionally, as a priority.
That's the kind of leadership the cybersecurity industry needs more of.
Why This Matters Right Now
We're heading into RSA, where thousands of security professionals will gather to talk about the future of the industry. The conversations there will shape strategies, budgets, and priorities for the year ahead.
I'll be there - talking about nonprofits, as always - and for the first time, I'll be doing it with 1Password in our corner!
The timing also follows a meaningful milestone: a recent Dark Reading article that shone a light on the unique cybersecurity challenges nonprofits face. The conversation is growing. The awareness is building. And having 1Password aligned with Sightline's mission adds real momentum to what we're trying to do.
A Note to the Broader Security Community
If you're reading this and you work in cybersecurity, at a vendor, a consultancy, or an enterprise team, I want to offer you the same challenge I always do:
Look left. Look right. Is the nonprofit in your community getting the support they need?
Because here's what we know: 90% of the nonprofits we work with lack a clear cybersecurity plan. 75% feel unprepared to make technology decisions without outside guidance. These aren't organizations that have given up, not at all (!), they're organizations waiting for someone to meet them where they are.
1Password met us where we are. And in doing so, they've helped Sightline meet even more nonprofits where they are.
THANK YOU!
To the team at 1Password, thank you. Not just for the sponsorship, but for seeing this mission clearly and choosing to be part of it. We don't take that lightly, and we won't let it go to waste.
To the nonprofits reading this, you're not alone. We're building something for you, and it's getting stronger every day.
And to the security companies still on the sidelines - there's a seat at this table. We'd love to have you.
